From sharing her inspiration and love for community and stories Morgan tells us all…
What do you love most about what you do?
I love that I can follow my curiosity on a daily basis. Since I was a child, I have been intrigued by the stories of people and the world around. I love that art is a way that I can go deeper into the questions about what we can learn from one another’s stories. I am so grateful that I get to spend time writing and creating art that speaks to the thoughts and feelings that so many of us encounter on the journey.
Tell us about the community that’s grown up around your work.
The community that I have come to know through my work is an incredibly diverse group who all have this in common: each of us has a story to tell. And even though we are in different seasons of life, in different places around the world, and the details of our stories are different, what connects us is what lies beneath the layers. We have all tread through the highs and lows of life, the mountains, and the valleys, and none of us are walking alone. Through my work I have had the opportunity to meet people who, on paper, are different than me, but I am forever inspired by the stories and experiences that have been shared within the community.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration from stories. Whether someone sends me their story via my website or I hear of someone’s journey in casual conversation, I am always drawn to how each of us got here, the words that we have clung to, the experiences we will never forget… I believe there is beauty and meaning in each of our stories, and I am grateful for the opportunity to make art inspired by it.
Why partner with VIDA?
We live in a time where there are a million places online to share your story, and yet, it is so challenging to feel seen and heard. What first caught my attention about VIDA is how they have created a platform for artists to be seen and heard by sharing their work with the world. The art we make is an incredibly powerful way to share our story with the world, and in doing so, other people can feel as though their own stories are reflected through the art they feel connected to.
What about the VIDA story/philosophy resonated with you?
VIDA’s mission to collapse the distances between designers and makers in an effort to bring beautiful, responsibly made products into the world. I believe that this creates an opportunity for originality to come to the forefront, and for people to see themselves reflected in what other people are sharing.
Tell us about your VIDA collection?
This collection is inspired by our stories. It is inspired by the beautiful reality that through the highs and lows of it all, there are all of these different colors and textures and words of wisdom and encouragement that come forth. In one way or another, each of us is faced with some kind of unknown in our lives, but it doesn’t have to stop us from owning and telling our story. It doesn’t have to keep us from seeing what can be beautiful and meaningful, even when it comes to the little things. I hope that these pieces inspire you to embrace what makes your story worth telling, in whatever season of your life you are in.
